House music began its origins in Chicago, the genre gained prominence in South African cities like Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Polokwane and Mahikeng.

Although it morphed in kwaito and gqom, its original roots are still evident with South African DJs such as OskidoBlack CoffeeCleoEuphonik, Clock, Qnesss and Da Capo. And younger artists are making serious headway in the genre too, including Master KG, Professor, DJ Ganyani, Black Motionand Lady Zamar, who are setting the house pace for the rest of the world.
